Beefalo with a Backstory
Meet the Farmer Behind Our Beefalo
Local meat. Real stories. Good food.
We're always on the lookout for farmers who are doing things right—raising animals with care, staying rooted in their land, and working hard to provide a better life for their families and communities. Our partner, Gatlin Orr of GH Beefalo in Perry, MO, fits that perfectly.
Gatlin is a young farmer with a simple but powerful dream: to raise good animals, and provide for his daughter. He's doing exactly that—working hard every day to grow his own feed, care for his animals, and build a life centered around family and farming.
Gatlin raises beefalo, a unique cross between beef cattle and American bison. It's about ⅛ bison and ⅞ beef, which is just the right mix to give the meat a richer, slightly sweeter flavor, without tasting gamey or wild. It still cooks just like ground beef but with less fat, more protein, and added nutrients like iron and B12.
His animals are grass-fed for most of their lives, then finished on a mix of homegrown corn and hay during the last two months. Everything is raised right there on his farm—no shortcuts, no fluff. Just honest, local food from a farmer who's all in.
We're proud to offer Ground Beefalo and Beefalo Snack Sticks in our farm store—and they've quickly become some of the most asked-for items in our freezers. In fact, demand has been so strong that we're expanding: Beefalo Steaks are joining the lineup too, so you can take that richer flavor straight to the grill.
Why folks keep coming back for it:
Naturally lean
Packed with protein, iron, and B vitamins
Raised without hormones or antibiotics
And most importantly—raised by someone you can feel good about supporting
This isn't your average ground meat. It's local. It's unique. And it's a small way to support a big dream.
Come try it any Saturday from 10–2 at Benoit Family Farmstead and taste the difference for yourself.
